After Cesia’s father left home, her family was struggling financially, significantly impacting her and her siblings. To cope, her older sister began using and started misbehaving at home and school. Cesia’s family was referred to Hope Harbor through Tustin Unified School District. Her older sister moved in and began receiving Hope Harbor’s life-changing services. As her family continued to struggle, Cesia’s mom knew that she had to act now before Cesia went down the same path as her sister. At 12 years old, Cesia moved into Hope Harbor as well. “It was important to me and my mom that I maintained the positive educational path I was on and not get distracted.”
Hope Harbor looks at each teen holistically so that they can address every area of their life that might have led to their current state of crisis. Cesia was provided with individual counseling, reliable transportation to and from school, academic support, and she could attend family counseling sessions with her sister and work on healing and restoration. “Hope Harbor changed my life completely. I made so many great memories, especially with my house mom, Donna. She was always so full of joy, making the house a great place to live.”
Hope Harbor also taught Cesia the importance of communication which is needed when you live in a house with five other teen girls. “Living with the girls, and the different personalities, helped me learn how to work with others and how to speak up.” Moving to Hope Harbor at the young age of 12 was tough on Cesia at the beginning. “I was lucky to have my sister there with me. We could heal together.” Cesia also learned that her mom cared about her well-being and only wanted her to succeed.
Cesia graduated from high school this year and will attend Irvine Valley College in the fall and then transfer to a 4-year university. “Hope Harbor gave me structure and provided discipline that I will continue to use as I begin college.”
From Cesia’s Mom:
“At first, it was hard seeing both of my daughters leaving home. Not being able to spend time with them like we usually did was tough. I understood how beneficial it was for them to be at Hope Harbor. I knew that they would appreciate the change it would make in their lives.
I’m so grateful to the staff, my daughter’s lives have completely changed. We are much closer now as a family. Thank you to the donors who support Hope Harbor financially and prayerfully. You have no idea how many lives are changing because of your support.”
